Service and Mission
Through our Board of Service and Mission, Emmaus UCC reaches out to the local community and around the world. Members and friends alike participate in various ways to serve and share our ministry with our neighbors wherever they live.
Our Local Community
Emmaus serves our local community with our resources as a church and as individual volunteering and individual donations including:
- Shaw Ministry for inner city youth in DC with funds, volunteer activities and donations
- Committee to Help Others (CHO) to provide emergency assistance with funds and donations in the Vienna and Oakton area
- Our Daily Bread delivery of donated groceries to low income families
- Community Ministry of Northern Virginia housing assistance program and advocacy to public officials for those in need
- Christmas White Gift Service donation of gifts for children at Northwest Settlement House in DC
- Service programs for seniors at the Shepherd Center serving Vienna and Oakton
- Alternative House for troubled youth in Tysons Corner area
International Mission
Emmaus serves our neighbors around the world including:
- Richard Hunter school in Liberia is supported with funds from the Services and Mission budget and individual donations to the Hunter Designated Fund
- Church Support for nursing program in Uganda
Service and Mission through the United Church of Christ’s National Programs
Emmaus supports the United Church of Christ Service and Mission programs with contributions to One Great House of Sharing (OGHS) and to Neighbors In Need (NIN).
Emmaus Cares
One of the most distinctive features about Emmaus UCC is our caring for ourselves and others. EmmausCares is the heart of the ministry of the church, an extension of the pastoral ministry to include everyone.
- Pastoral Care available at all times from Rev. Bill.
- Links of Love Prayer Ministry a group of people committed to praying for weekly joys and concerns of members and friends.
- Health and Wellness Ministry offers opportunities to learn more about the connection between body, mind, and spirit.
- Helping Hands provides meals to people in time of need.
- EmmausCaregivers a group of people who have been trained to provide confidential one-to-one care and listening to people in all kinds of circumstances and needs.
